BEAST – Directed by: Christopher Sferrazza – Australia. In a small town on the eastern coast of Australia lives the quiet and caring Sophie. Her only relationships are with town gossip Bea, with whom she works at the local butcher, and her grandson Liam, a single paramedic. Sophie has been a social outcast for nearly a decade in the wake of a fatal accident involving her daughter, and the dominating Bea has given Sophie hopes of rejoining the community by “weaving her magic with the girls”. Just when things are finally looking up, Sophie stumbles upon something dark and inconceivable that forces her to make an impossible decision. A decision for love… Beast has now been selected for entry to the 2018 Academy Awards. Following awards season, Beast will be included as part of Virgin Australia’s in-flight cinema programming.

From the very beginning the man does not come across as trustworthy and the woman, anxious and feeling the growing threat, decides to pick up one more person. In the confined space of the car the three strangers begin a tense game. The characters hide some secrets that, revealed in small steps, will lead to tragic events.

Sweet Oil – Director: Chris Cowden – Native American, Alberta Canada. Two daughters of a single mother use their imaginations to overcome the hardships of life in Northern Alberta, Canada’s once booming oil sands.
Breathe – Director: Jonathan Remple – Egypt, Portugal, United Kingdom. Freediving tests the limits of human potential. For Rebecca Illing, this breathless “meditation with consequences” released her from addiction. Her journey to self acceptance takes her to unspeakable depths, where she finds absolute peace of mind at the bottom of the sea. Her story challenges us to question our own addictions, big and small, and inspires us to find our own path to self love.
